‘X’ Goes Down: Elon Musk’s microblogging platform, ‘X’, has gone down again globally. Monday marked the third time in a single day that X faced an outage, leaving users unable to log in. Many users reported issues on the DownDetector website.
Musk claimed that the cyberattack on X originated from the Ukraine region, which disrupted services and raised concerns about cybersecurity threats. Speaking with Larry Kudlow on Fox News, Musk said, “We don’t know exactly what happened, but there was a large cyberattack aimed at taking down X systems, originating from an IP address in the Ukraine region.”
According to DownDetector, the first issue occurred at 3:30 PM. By 7 PM, users started experiencing issues logging in. The third outage occurred at 8:44 PM when X went down again. Users across various locations faced problems with both the app and the website. Complaints came from multiple countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, and India. More than 40,000 global users reported service disruptions. DownDetector’s report indicated that 56% of users faced issues with the app, 33% experienced problems on the website, and 11% reported server connection issues.
Initially, X did not acknowledge the issue, even as users continued to report problems. This led to significant user frustration, with many complaining about the lack of accountability from the company.
In response to the outages, Elon Musk posted on X, stating, “We were hit with a massive cyberattack (still crying). We were attacked with a lot of resources. This attack involved a major group or country.”
