Manmohan Singh Funeral: The mortal remains of Manmohan Singh will be kept for public viewing, and his funeral will be conducted with full military honors.
The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be kept at the Congress headquarters for public viewing on Saturday morning. Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress Communications Department, provided this information. He said, “On December 28, the mortal remains of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be brought to the Congress headquarters at 8 AM. The public and Congress workers will have the opportunity to pay their tributes between 8:30 and 9:30 AM.” Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday night at the age of 92.
The funeral of the former PM will take place on Saturday at 11:45 AM at the Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi with full state honors. The Ministry of Home Affairs provided this information on Friday. In a statement, the Ministry said, “The government has decided that Dr. Manmohan Singh’s funeral will be conducted with state honors. The funeral will take place on December 28, 2024, at 11:45 AM at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi.”
The funeral will be conducted with full military honors.
The statement further mentioned that the Ministry of Defense has been requested to arrange for the funeral to be conducted with full military honors. Meanwhile, Congress is demanding the creation of a memorial for him. In the meantime, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal claimed that the central government rejected the request from the former PM’s family to conduct the funeral at a location where a memorial could be built.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the funeral of the former Prime Minister takes place at a location where a memorial could be constructed. He made this request both through a phone call and a letter to the Prime Minister. There has been no official response from the government to Kharge’s request. Badal posted on X, “Shocking and unbelievable. It is deeply condemnable that the central government has refused the family’s request to conduct Dr. Manmohan Singh’s funeral at a place where an appropriate and historical memorial could be built to remember his unparalleled contribution to the nation.”
